Day 58 - Barking Dogs and Crickets

Barking dogs and crickets
The rumble of a train
A dickhead in a Holden ute
Bags it up three streets away
The streetlights cast a shadow
On the tin and fibro walls
The sun's been gone for hours
Still a haywire cocky calls
Through the night
The sounds continue
The endless droning from the mine
Watched over by the moon
And the stars, there is a sign
Of a teapot constellation
As it penetrates the dark
Of an unremarkable existence
A reality that is stark

Day 55 - Tribute Chicken

Today I spent some time with a lovely, red-haired woman named Julia (not that Julia) but I didn't get a photo of her so, instead, here is a photo of my lovely, red-feathered chicken named Julia.

Day 41 - Locked Out

My neighbour, Lisa, borrowing my phone to try and track down her partner/keys - after the door blew shut on her and locked her out - to no avail.
It all turned out OK though. A brawler van just happened to turn up next door to Lisa's (I know right?! In Leafy Lamington!), and some friendly coppers helped her break in, and the rice cooker didn't overheat and burn the house down.

Day 40 - Trades' Hall

I have driven past this building a fair bit over the years. Even photographed it a couple of times.
I've always wondered what it was like inside.
Who owned it?
What went on in here?
(Did anything go in in here?).

Then I thought maybe - from the boarded-up windows and state of disrepair - that is was condemned.

But this morning I found out the answers to all of those questions.

And this wasn't the photo I was after for today's post.

I really wanted to photograph the broken, dusty, old piano, next to a stack of chairs, a framed photo of a much-younger Bob Hawke on top, with a vase of fake flowers that sat beside a vintage "No Glasses on the Piano" sign, and another faded photo, of Bill Hayden.

It was like no one had touched it for thirty years. Amusing and bemusing (if that makes sense), and kind of fitting.
It would have been a great photo. Maybe next time.

Day 38 - Tangerine Groves and Long Melon Fields

“Soon it got dusk, a grapy dusk, a purple dusk over tangerine groves and long melon fields...”

Day 36 - Lady Tonia's Finishing School For Girls

An after-school catch-up and a few laughs with a funny and completely gorgeous friend and her very accommodating young daughter who let my kids play with ALL of the stuff xxx

Day 35 - Seeds/Beads

Strands of beads from two different worlds.

Ininti seed necklace from north Queensland and a string of yellow beads that were my Nana's.

Day 34 - Big School

My youngest started 'big school' today.
All smiles, no tears.
Relieved.
But dirty fingernails were forgotten in the morning chaos, too busy trying to navigate that place between holiday mode and the return to routine.

Day 33 - Stumps Called

Summer holidays are over.
A summer of swimming and cricket, with a little bit of ice cream and fish and chips at the beach thrown in for good measure.
(...and the poor old cubby looks like it took a battering.)

Back to school tomorrow.
Time to call stumps on the holidays.
